05/19/2025, 18:00Kyrgyzstan has been hit by several natural disasters in just a few days. Earthquakes, strong winds, and a surge in fires have been reported in various regions of the country. The State Insurance Organization (SIO) reported a sharp increase in claims and began promptly recording insurance claims, inspecting damaged property, and processing payments.
An earthquake measuring over 5 on the Richter scale struck the Ak-Taly district on May 12. Residential buildings in the villages of Ak-Kya, Kök-Zhar, Zhan-Talap, Baykonchok, Togolok Moldo, and Kadyrali were the most affected. Of the more than 100 damaged properties, 56 were insured by the State Insurance Company. An interdepartmental working group has already been set up, an on-site survey has been conducted, and insurance payments are being processed.
On May 18, hundreds of houses, social facilities, equipment, and infrastructure were damaged by hurricane-force winds in the Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions. On the same day, 19 fires were reported in the country, including in residential buildings and farm buildings. The State Insurance Agency reports multiple insurance claims, which are currently being assessed by experts.
The agency notes that the increase in climatic and seismic risks makes property insurance not a matter of formal choice, but a vital financial protection. The organization's regional offices are working in an enhanced mode. All those affected are advised to apply for payments as soon as possible.
