02/23/2025, 14:27The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission has decided to impose an import duty of 8% of the customs value on transport air conditioners of monoblock type in a single body. The new measure applies to goods falling under the code 8415 20 000 9 of the Eurasian Economic Commission's HS and will be valid for two years.
Previously, this category of goods was subject to a zero rate in the Unified Customs Tariff of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The introduction of the duty is aimed at supporting the industry of transport air conditioners in the EAEU countries, which should contribute to the development of railway and automotive engineering.
According to Vahagn Ghazaryan, director of the EEC Department of Customs-Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation, the introduction of the duty will level the competition conditions for local manufacturers, which face unequal conditions due to low import duties on finished products and components.
“Import of ready-made air conditioners often turns out to be economically more profitable than their production in the domestic market,” he emphasized.
Vahagn Ghazaryan also noted that Russian business actively invests in assembly enterprises, as well as in the development of technologies of production of key components of transportation air conditioners.
This regulation should strengthen the competitiveness of domestic producers and reduce the dependence on foreign suppliers.
