The lion's share of problematic projects is concentrated in Bishkek. The capital accounts for 37.5% of all unfinished construction projects in the country, which is more than 114 billion KGS.
The city is growing, developers are launching large-scale projects, but not all of them are being completed. As a result, tens of billions of KGS of frozen capital that could already be working for the economy are being wasted.
The second and third positions are occupied by the Osh and Issyk-Kul regions. In the Osh region, the amount of unfinished projects exceeded 32 billion KGS, and in Issyk-Kul — more than 30 billion. Moreover, the situation in Issyk-Kul looks particularly dynamic, with the volume of unfinished construction more than doubling over the year.
Interestingly, the situation in the Jalal-Abad region is the opposite, with the volume of unfinished construction falling from 87.7 to 69.9 billion KGS. But even so, the region remains the second largest in terms of long-term construction projects in the country, accounting for almost 23% of the total volume.
The growth of unfinished construction to record levels is a sign that the country's construction industry is suffering not only from ambition, but also from a lack of long-term planning and effective control.
