Dozens of officials detained in Kyrgyzstan for organising a corruption scheme at the Chaldovar checkpoint

The State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic has uncovered a persistent corruption scheme in the area of the Chaldovar-Avtodorozhny checkpoint in the Chui region. Employees of several government agencies were involved in the scheme, including the State Tax Service, the Border Service, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the investigation, officials colluded with so-called ‘pushers’ to organise the illegal import of goods from EAEU countries. To do this, they used fictitious shipping documents with distorted information about the volume and value of the cargo. In return for their assistance, the perpetrators systematically received bribes in cash and through M-Bank e-wallets.

As a result of the operation carried out on 24 September, the following were detained:

7 tax service employees,

6 border service military personnel,

4 Ministry of Transport employees,

6 Ministry of Agriculture employees,

as well as several ‘pushers’.

All of them were placed in the GKNB detention centre under Article 96 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

We would like to remind you that earlier reports indicated a persistent corruption scheme at the Chaldovar checkpoint. At that time, the head of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchibek Tashiev, ordered the dismissal of all those responsible, the seizure of their property, and the prosecution of managers who had allowed corruption in their areas of responsibility.
