Only Armenia's state debt in the EAEU is growing faster than Kyrgyzstan's

As of July 1, the total public debt of the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, except for Belarus, reached $383.6 billion. Over the year it increased by $15.9 billion.

Moreover, the growth is due to the increase in domestic debt, while external borrowings of the EAEU countries decreased by 5.61%, or $4.7 billion, amounting to $79.1 billion.

Kazakhstan reduced its external debt the most, -8.38%, followed by Russia (-5.51%), Armenia (-3.13%) and Kyrgyzstan (-0.69%). Moreover, our republic's external debt decrease is visible only in the national currency.

At the same time, domestic debt increased in all the countries - members of the economic alliance.  Thus, in Kazakhstan the growth amounted to 0.43%, in Russia - by 8.02%. Armenia and Kyrgyzstan showed the strongest increase in domestic debt - by 25.5% and 58.33% respectively.

As a result, as of July 1, compared to the corresponding date of last year, the public debt expressed in national currency increased by 0.6% in Kazakhstan, by 3.8% in Russia, by 9.9% in Kyrgyzstan, and by 10.1% in Armenia.

At the same time, the growth rate of public debt did not decrease only in Armenia.

It is important that the structure of public debt in Armenia and Kyrgyzstan was dominated by external debt, while in Kazakhstan and Russia - by domestic debt. Thus, in Armenia, external borrowings account for 51.4%, which is 6.6 percentage points less than on July 1, 2023, in Kyrgyzstan - 70.8% (-7.5 percentage points over the year). In Kazakhstan and Russia, domestic debt accounts for 75.1% and 82.5%, respectively. Moreover, in both countries the share of domestic debt increased, in Kazakhstan by 1.7 percentage points and in Russia by 2 percentage points.
