10/15/2025, 16:45Today, 15 October, a new sports and recreation area, including a mini-football pitch and a sports ground, opened at the intersection of Gagarin and Imanaliev streets in Bishkek.
The event was attended by representatives of the mayor's office, the Leninsky District Administration, Municipal Territorial Administration No. 109, the Swiss Embassy, as well as residents and representatives of local communities.
Thanks to this project, more than 20,000 residents of the Ak-Ordo-2, Ak-Ordo-3 and Ala-Too-3 (Erkin-Too) housing estates now have access to a modern and comfortable place for sports, recreation and socialising. The new space quickly became a popular meeting place for young people, families and the elderly, promoting healthy lifestyles, social initiatives and community cohesion.
The total investment in the project amounted to 12.6 million KGS, of which 8.2 million KGS were financed by Switzerland and 4.4 million KGS by the Bishkek City Council. Local residents played an important role in the implementation of the project, showing enthusiasm, initiative and a willingness to cooperate.
Incidentally, in 2022, Switzerland launched the Arakhet project, aimed at improving the quality of life in residential areas. The Arakhet project is operating in 11 new buildings — 7 in Bishkek and 4 in Osh — covering more than 120,000 people. The initiative helps residents better understand their rights and responsibilities, gain access to basic public services, and contributes to infrastructure development and improved quality of life through cooperation with local authorities. In this way, the Arakhet project makes life in new buildings safer, more inclusive and more comfortable. The project pays particular attention to supporting women and children, so that they have more opportunities for education, social activity and economic stability.
The Arakhet project, funded by the Swiss government, is being implemented by the GFA Consulting Group in partnership with the Resource Centre for Older People public association.
