Jogorku Kenesh's MP has voiced in favour of tougher punishment for drunken driving

Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Azamat Isirailov has spoken in favour of tougher punishment for drunken driving.

The current three-day arrest is ineffective because it doesn't prevent repeat offences, Isirailov said. He noted that drivers often get out of custody early and get behind the wheel again in a drunken state. As a result, cases of road accidents are on the rise.

"Perhaps we should introduce fines for drunk driving? For example, for the first offence - 50 thousand KGS, for repeated offences - 70 thousand and 100 thousand KGS,’ the MP suggested.

He expressed confidence that stricter financial sanctions could become a more effective means of combating drunkenness at the wheel.
