10/24/2024, 13:39Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Azamat Isirailov has spoken in favour of tougher punishment for drunken driving.
The current three-day arrest is ineffective because it doesn't prevent repeat offences, Isirailov said. He noted that drivers often get out of custody early and get behind the wheel again in a drunken state. As a result, cases of road accidents are on the rise.
"Perhaps we should introduce fines for drunk driving? For example, for the first offence - 50 thousand KGS, for repeated offences - 70 thousand and 100 thousand KGS,’ the MP suggested.
He expressed confidence that stricter financial sanctions could become a more effective means of combating drunkenness at the wheel.
