    The proportion of Kyrgyz citizens who take out loans to buy food has decreased by 4.5 times

    According to the latest World Bank report, ‘Listening to the Kyrgyz Republic,’ household financial confidence has increased significantly and food security has strengthened over the past three and a half years.

    According to the study, the number of families who feel financially secure has reached 80%.

    This is 2.5 times higher than in December 2021, when only 33% of respondents reported that their financial situation was stable. Confidence in the current economic situation in the country has also increased, from 72% in early 2022 to 91% in June 2025.

    The report pays special attention to food security issues. The share of families who are confident in their food security increased from 41% to 86%. The number of those who were forced to take out loans or sell property to buy food decreased significantly, from 32% to 7% and from 16% to 2%, respectively.

    The report also notes positive changes in specific indicators:

    • The proportion of families facing hunger fell from 12% to 2%.
    • The number of cases where people went without food for a whole day fell from 8% to 2%.
    • The number of families running out of food fell from 41% to 5%.
    • The level of anxiety about food security decreased from 33% to 10%.
