EDB declared its readiness to invest up to $500 mln in the construction of Kambarata HPP-1

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) announced its readiness to invest up to $500 mln in the construction of Kambarata HPP-1 - a strategic project of Kyrgyzstan, which promises to become one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in Central Asia.

At a press conference in Almaty, EDB Chairman of the Board Nikolai Podguzov noted that the bank is not only ready to finance the preparation of a feasibility study, but also to participate in the implementation of the project together with the World Bank.

“We see in this project the potential for strengthening the energy security of the region and are ready to provide both technical assistance and funds for construction,” he emphasized.

So far, the final cost of construction remains unclear, with preliminary estimates ranging from $3 billion to $4 billion.
