All houses in the Kyrgyz Republic should be insured by the end of the year - Akylbek Zhaparov

The Head of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov instructed state agencies to insure all houses, including disaster risk zones, by the end of 2024.

This decision is aimed at providing for citizens' financial protection and minimizing the consequences for families who have lost their homes. Insurance will be an important tool to accelerate recovery from natural disasters and reduce the burden on the state budget.

Akylbek Zhaparov noted the importance of a comprehensive approach to solving the mudflow problem. He emphasized the need to strengthen river banks, carry out preventive measures, including water bodies' cleaning and creating drainage systems, and increase public awareness of safety measures in case of mudflow threat.

As part of this initiative, the Head of the Cabinet instructed to organize information campaigns for residents so that they would know how to act in emergencies. He also pointed out that in the context of global warming, the number of natural disasters will only increase. In this regard, real estate insurance is the tool needed to ensure the population's safety and resilience to the consequences of natural disasters.

According to the Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Boobek Azhikeyev, 331 debris flows that affected 5,354 houses were recorded in Kyrgyzstan in September 2024. Of these, 102 houses were damaged and 138 need major repairs.
