An attempt was made to illegally import 3.5 tonnes of pistachios from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan

Employees of the Department of Chemicalisation, Protection and Quarantine of Plants carried out control measures at the Dostuk checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek section of the state border.

During the inspection, it was established that pistachios with a total weight of 3.5 tonnes were imported into Kyrgyzstan from Uzbekistan in violation of quarantine phytosanitary requirements.

It is specified that the packaging of the quarantine products did not have the mandatory marking, so the cargo was returned to the sender.

The department notes that an average of 5-6 cases of non-compliance with plant quarantine legislation are recorded daily in hand luggage carried by Uzbek citizens. Between July and August 2025, 60 such cases were registered, and appropriate reports were drawn up for all of them.
