Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Mels Attokurov replied that the main purpose is to create new innovative products and services.
‘Just the creation of products? There is no other goal?’ - Bekeshev clarified, recalling that earlier representatives of the National Bank stated the need for investment of $5-10 million for the implementation of the digital som project.
Attokurov noted that among the key areas of use of digital currency are considered cross-border transfers.
Asked by the MP where digital money is already being used in the world, the deputy head of the National Bank replied that there are no fully implemented digital currencies yet, but they are being actively studied.
Bekeshev also asked whether the digital som would not be used to track citizens, as is feared in Russia with regard to the digital ruble. In response, the National Bank assured that there is no such goal, and the introduction of the digital som is aimed at Kyrgyzstan's readiness for new technologies and compliance with global trends.
