Kyrgyzstan to purchase 10 mainline freight locomotives from the US

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov, today, 21 September, met in New York City with Paolo Zampolli, the US President’s Special Representative for Global Partnerships; William Kimmitt, US Under-Secretary of Commerce; John Jovanovic, Chairman of the US Export-Import Bank; and the management of the American locomotive manufacturer Wabtec (Wabtec).

At the start of the meeting, the Head of State congratulated his counterparts on the 250th anniversary of US independence, wishing them and the American people well-being and prosperity.

The Head of State noted Kyrgyzstan’s interest in further expanding mutually beneficial economic and investment cooperation with the US, as well as in implementing joint infrastructure projects.

Sadyr Zhaparov also stated that Kyrgyzstan is placing particular emphasis on the development of transport infrastructure, specifically the construction of railway networks.

In this regard, the significance of this meeting and the signing of a contract for the purchase of 10 modern TE33AS series mainline freight locomotives for use by the state-owned enterprise ‘National Company “Kyrgyz Temir Zholu”’ was emphasised.

Delivery of these locomotives to Kyrgyzstan is expected by the end of 2027.
