Kyrgyzstan can now export berries to China

Kyrgyzstan and China have signed a protocol that paves the way for Kyrgyz raspberries, blackberries and redcurrants to be supplied to the Chinese market. The document was concluded as part of phytosanitary cooperation between the two countries and within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

For local producers, this means access to one of the world’s largest consumer markets. Previously, the main export destinations for Kyrgyz fruit and berries were the EAEU countries and other traditional markets. Access to the Chinese market will enable producers to expand their geographical reach, find new buyers and increase production volumes.

The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry notes that growing demand for high-value-added berries could provide a further boost to the development of berry cultivation and processing in Kyrgyzstan. The ministry also stated that it would continue its work to expand export opportunities and introduce domestic products to new international markets.
