In the first nine months of this year, each of these countries sent just over 6,000 Christmas trees to Kazakhstan. However, Kazakhstani companies paid $15.9m to Russian suppliers, while Kyrgyz companies paid only $2.6m for the same volume of goods.
It should be noted that for 9 months of the current year Kyrgyzstan exported 1.1 tonnes of products for holidays, carnivals (coniferous trees fall under this code) with a total value of $11 thousand.
In March 2022, President Sadyr Zhaparov launched a national campaign ‘Jashyl Muras’ throughout Kyrgyzstan. Since then, Kyrgyzstan's forest area has grown to almost 6.3% of the country's total area.
Thus, the total forest area totalled 1.2 million hectares. Of these, the forests of the State Forest Fund - more than 797 thousand hectares, forests in specially protected natural areas - almost 137 thousand hectares.
It should be emphasised that cutting down forests in Kyrgyzstan is illegal and fines can reach KGS 100 thousand.
