11/14/2025, 10:10The 13th meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan was held in Astana, where the parties focused not only on their current partnership, but also on ambitious goals. After nine months, mutual trade has already reached $1.7 billion, showing a 15% increase, while Kazakhstan's direct investments in Kyrgyzstan amounted to $64 million in six months. The momentum does not end there — the heads of government agreed to raise the bar and bring trade turnover to $3 billion by 2030.
The focus of the negotiations is the transition from conventional trade to the creation of a common infrastructure. Discussions are underway on the launch of an industrial, trade, and logistics complex in the border area and the construction of a wholesale distribution center for fruits and vegetables in the Almaty region. These projects should ensure uninterrupted supplies of products and strengthen food security in the region.
The parties paid separate attention to energy and transport: the mechanism for oil supplies to Kyrgyzstan and the modernization of the Kychi-Kapka-Besagash, Ak-Tileq-Karasu, Karkyra-Kegen, and the restoration of the Nizhny Chuy-Ak-Suu crossing point. At the end of the meeting, a protocol was signed on key areas of cooperation, ranging from trade and investment to culture and water energy.
