Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan agree on electricity supplies for autumn and winter

On September 7, a meeting on energy cooperation between Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan was held in Cholpon-Ata. Following the meeting, a protocol was signed regulating electricity supplies from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan in the autumn-winter period of 2025-2026.

The main purpose of the document is to ensure the conservation and rational use of water in the Toktogul Reservoir by coordinating the parties' obligations for electricity supplies. In addition, the terms for the transit of electricity from Russia and Turkmenistan through the power systems of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan were approved.

Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev stressed that regional cooperation plays a key role in ensuring the sustainability of the country's power system.

“Through joint efforts, we will ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the population and strengthen the region's energy security. We expect our Uzbek and Kazakh colleagues to comply with the supply schedules,” he said.

A bilateral protocol on electricity supply between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan was also signed.

The meeting was attended by representatives of relevant ministries and energy companies from the three countries. In particular, Kazakhstan was represented by Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov, First Deputy Minister Nurlan Aldamzharov, and the heads of KEGOC and the Renewable Energy Center. The Uzbekistan delegation was led by Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamahmudov and Water Resources Minister Shavkat Hamraev.
