Kyrgyzstan strengthens legal framework for maritime trade development

An interdepartmental meeting was held in Bishkek to discuss harmonisation of legislation and improving the efficiency of maritime infrastructure.

Representatives of the presidential administration, relevant ministries and government agencies discussed the practical application of the provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the development of a national code on merchant shipping.

The meeting also discussed the prospects for creating favourable conditions for the registration, support and protection of the rights of participants in merchant shipping, including owners of ships flying the Kyrgyz flag. Particular attention was paid to the creation of transparent procedures, the protection of the rights of shipping participants and the expansion of international cooperation. The aim of the measures is to stimulate the growth of trade and increase Kyrgyzstan's competitiveness in international trade.
