Малые ГЭС — большие возможности: на Иссык-Куле стартовал проект «Чок-Тал»

A ceremony was held to lay the foundation capsule at the construction site of the Chok-Tal small hydropower plant (SHPP) in the Issyk-Kul region. This event marked the official launch of the project, which is being implemented with the support of the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF).

The Fund signed a financing agreement with Green Energy LLC for $2.74 million. The new SHP, located on the Chok-Tal River, will have an installed capacity of 3.7 MW.

Once commissioned in 2027, the plant is expected to generate approximately 19.2 million kWh of clean electricity annually. This will reduce the load on the existing power grid.

«This project is important not only for increasing Kyrgyzstan's energy capacity. It will also solve the problem of water losses in the canal that supplies nearby villages. Currently, about 50%, or 0.7 cubic metres of water, is lost due to worn-out infrastructure. The construction of the plant will allow all the water to be used for the needs of the population», — said Artem Novikov, Chairman of the Board of the Kyrgyz Republic Development Fund.

The project is fully in line with the direction set by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to strengthen the country's energy independence, as well as the RCF's strategic objectives for the development of renewable energy sources.
