06/16/2026, 15:35The championship organisers have stated that they are prepared to cancel future races if even minor environmental impacts are detected. This was announced at a press conference.
Eduard Kubatov, Director of the Kyrgyz Republic’s State Agency for Tourism Development, emphasised that he bears personal responsibility for the project. He noted that if there is a negative impact on the environment, the event could be cancelled as early as next year.
“If there are any environmental consequences, even minor ones, from this project, we may abandon this event,” he said.
The statement came against the backdrop of public discussions regarding the potential impact of the races on the Issyk-Kul ecosystem.
The authorities have previously faced criticism over major infrastructure and tourism projects in the lake’s coastal zone.
