The funds were allocated for the refurbishment of the runway, the terminal complex and other airport infrastructure. This sum does not include the official delegations’ lounge in Terminal 2.
As part of the refurbishment, the runway was upgraded to Category III, the apron was extended, and the terminal’s floor area was increased by 20,000 square metres. It previously stood at 39,000 square metres.
Two new telescopic boarding bridges and an automatic baggage sorting system have also been installed. The number of boarding gates has been increased from 8 to 13, whilst the number of border control desks and check-in desks has doubled.
Following the refurbishment, the airport’s passenger capacity has increased from 1,700 to over 3,000.
According to Samidinov, over the past four years, approximately $375 million of the state’s own funds has been allocated to the development of Kyrgyzstan’s airport infrastructure as a whole. This sum includes projects at international and regional airports.
