Ibraev informed the World Bank about the current status of the Kambarata HPP

In Washington, Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev and Finance Minister Almaz Baketaev met with Antonella Bassani, Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia. The talks took place within the framework of the World Bank's annual meetings and focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, in particular the implementation of the Kambarata HPP-1 construction project.

The parties discussed the progress of preparations for the implementation of the country's largest hydropower project. Minister Ibraev noted that work on the project is ahead of schedule and emphasised that Kyrgyzstan is actively developing regional cooperation with partners in the field of water and energy.

According to him, public consultations with residents have already been held in the project area, and in November this year, a meeting with representatives of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will be held in Istanbul to discuss environmental and social impact assessments.

Special attention was paid to the issue of financing. The Minister of Energy reported that agreements in principle had been reached with the European Investment Bank to allocate $500 million for the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1, as well as with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for an additional $500 million.

In addition, a meeting with members of the donor committee was held earlier in Brussels, where mechanisms for the joint participation of international financial institutions in the implementation of the project were discussed.

Taalaybek Ibraev expressed his gratitude to the World Bank for its continued support and emphasised that the institution's participation plays a key role in promoting Kyrgyzstan's energy independence and increasing its export potential.
