The National Bank and German experts taught banks how to manage ESG risks

The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan and German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation held a timely seminar on ESG risk radar on June 16–17, bringing together bankers and international experts.

During the seminar, banks were taught how to identify risks that are not visible in reports but can affect business, ranging from climate to social and management risks. The event was part of a larger program, “Green Economy and Sustainable Private Sector Development in the Kyrgyz Republic,” implemented by GIZ with support from BMZ, the EU, and the Swiss government.

The discussion was a continuation of the work started by the National Bank in 2024, when it approved a roadmap for the development of sustainable finance. Thus, the workshop is a transition to the next step—training specialists who know how to work with ESG tools in practice.

Participants discussed with an international expert how to adapt ESG tools to the realities of the Kyrgyz banking sector, how to calculate greenhouse gas emissions even if you are not an industrialist, and finally, how to establish control over the implementation of sustainability principles in finance.
