10/07/2026, 21:49On October 7, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan sold $207.55 million on the foreign exchange market. This marks the twelfth intervention since the beginning of 2026 and the second-largest in terms of volume during that period.
Of the total amount, $27 million was sold with settlement on the day the transaction was concluded, and another $180.55 million was sold with settlement on a different date.
The regulator sold U.S. dollars at an exchange rate of 87.45 som.
The National Bank sold more currency only on June 29—$222.55 million. The October transaction pushed the September 4 intervention of $202.7 million down to third place, exceeding it by $4.85 million.
Taking the latest transaction into account, the total volume of dollar sales since the beginning of the year has reached $2.007905 billion. All 12 interventions were aimed at selling currency; the regulator did not buy any dollars.
By comparison, the regulator sold $853 million over the entire year of 2025. Thus, sales for the incomplete year of 2026 have already exceeded last year’s volume by a factor of 2.44, or by $1 billion 226.05 million.
Previously, the National Bank explained that it enters the market when there is a temporary shortage of foreign currency supply. The interventions are intended to smooth out sharp short-term exchange rate fluctuations, not to fix the rate at a specific level.
