03/04/2026, 13:41According to hydrologists, by 31 December 2025, the situation with water reserves in the largest reservoirs of Kyrgyzstan was uneven.
The Toktogul Reservoir decreased by 1 million cubic metres compared to the previous month, to 9.497 billion cubic metres, which is 49% of the volume in 2024. At the same time, the average water consumption in December exceeded the norm by 18%.
At the same time, the Orto-Tokoy and Kirov reservoirs showed an increase in reserves: Orto-Tokoi increased by 74.6 million cubic metres (to 169 million cubic metres), and Kirovskoye by 71 million cubic metres (to 202 million cubic metres), which is 37–73% of last year's figures. The average water consumption in these reservoirs also exceeded the norm: 117% and 103%, respectively.
Hydrologists note that in a number of areas, including Alamedinsky, Sokuluksky and Issyk-Kul, water flow in December was 22–95% higher than the long-term norm, while on the Ak-Sai, Ak-Suu, Tar and other rivers, there was a decrease of up to 28–79% of the norm.
Thus, despite local fluctuations, the Orto-Tokoy and Kirovskoye reservoirs are showing an increase in reserves, which creates the potential for a more sustainable water supply in the region in early 2026.
