Amendments to EEU technical regulations on food safety and labelling come into force

On November 10, the amendments approved by the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission to the EEU technical regulations on food products and their labelling will come into force.

These amendments will allow organisations to release products on the EEU market without having to replace labelling in case of changes in details, such as the manufacturer's or importer's address.

According to the amendments to Article 39 of the technical regulation ‘On the Safety of Food Products’, within three years after the renaming of places specified in the address, such as a city, region or street, it will be allowed to indicate the former names in the labelling, provided that the actual address and place of production remain unchanged.

Also, Article 4 of the regulation ‘Food products as regards their labelling’ describes the permissible methods of informing consumers with actual data on the producer's location. Valentin Tataritsky, Minister for Technical Regulation of the EEC, noted that these changes will improve the business environment in the EAEU countries and help reduce unnecessary financial costs associated with the replacement of labelling.
