Almost all vodka produced in Kyrgyzstan is consumed domestically

In recent years, the production of vodka and spirits in Kyrgyzstan has remained almost entirely focused on domestic consumption. Exports play a secondary role, with the vast majority of production remaining within the country.

At the end of 2024, the production of vodka and spirits in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 1 million 487.6 thousand decaliters (author's note: 1 decaliter, or dal for short, is equal to 10 liters). At the same time, only 143,400 deciliters, or less than 10% of production, was exported.

The rest of the production was actually sold on the domestic market.

Thus, more than 90% of the strong alcohol produced is consumed domestically, which confirms the industry's focus on domestic demand rather than foreign markets.

An analysis of the dynamics for 2020–2024 shows a steady trend:

Production grew almost every year — from 351,400 deciliters in 2020 to 1,487,600 deciliters in 2024, increasing more than fourfold.

Exports, however, did not show comparable growth. In 2023, they peaked (741,700 dal), but by 2024 they had fallen sharply, almost fivefold, to 143,400 dal.

Resources for the domestic market increased steadily, from 345,200 dal in 2020 to 1,317,700 dal in 2024.

This means that even against the backdrop of production expansion, the domestic market remained the main and, in fact, the only consumer of the product.

Data from recent years show that exports of vodka and spirits to Kyrgyzstan are irregular and opportunistic. Even the sharp surge in 2023 did not become a sustainable trend and was offset a year later.

As a result, the country's alcohol industry operates according to a simple model:

we produce, sell domestically, and partially supplement the market with imports, without relying on external expansion.

Thus, Kyrgyzstan mainly produces strong alcohol for its own consumption. The growth in production is accompanied not by an expansion of exports, but by an increase in the volume remaining on the domestic market.
