The gap between the poor and the rich in Kyrgyzstan breaks new records

From 2019 to 2023, the gap between the rich and the poor in Kyrgyzstan continues to grow. This is evidenced by the data of the National Statistical Committee on food security in Kyrgyzstan.

According to the data, the share of income of the poorest 20% of the population decreased from 6.8% to 4.6%. At the same time, the group of the 20% most affluent already accounts for 48.3% of all incomes, which is almost half of the total.

The economic data shows an alarming trend:

    • Group 1 (the least well-off): their share has fallen from 6.8% in 2019 to 4.6% in 2023.
    • Group 2 (the most affluent): their income increased from 44.6% to 48.3% over the same period.

Thus, the economic gulf between population groups is deepening.
