Rare earth elements, lithium and aluminium. What Kyrgyzstan is betting on until 2030

The Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers has approved a programme for the development of the critical minerals sector until 2030. It provides for the creation of a unified state platform, the introduction of international reporting standards and the active attraction of investment. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Marat Zhusupbekov at the B5+1 business forum.

The list includes 22 types of critical minerals. Among them are rare earth elements, lithium, aluminium, titanium, copper and iron. According to Zhusupbekov, the implementation of the programme should create conditions for the sustainable development of the industry and the responsible use of resources.

Particular emphasis is placed on aluminium and iron deposits. Aluminium reserves are estimated at more than 152 million tonnes, and iron ore reserves at over 203 million tonnes. One of the iron ore sites is considered one of the largest in Central Asia, with potential resources of more than 6 billion tonnes.

A number of projects are considering a comprehensive approach, including the construction of energy facilities and the development of transport infrastructure. According to the authorities, this format increases the investment attractiveness of the industry.
