What was the volume of petrol reserves in Kyrgyzstan at the beginning of summer?

Kyrgyzstan entered June with petrol reserves of 70,100 tonnes. This is 9.5% less than in June last year, when enterprises and organisations had 77,400 tonnes in storage.

Most of the fuel was concentrated in Bishkek — 60.8 thousand tonnes, which is over 85% of the total volume. Significant reserves of the country's total volume were also noted in the Chui region — 4.5 thousand tonnes, and in the city of Osh — 3.9 thousand tonnes. In other regions, reserves remained insignificant, often measured in tens of tonnes.

Thus, the capital and the surrounding region actually formed the basis of the reserves.

As previously reported by Akchabar with reference to the country's Ministry of Energy, Kyrgyzstan consumes 1.6 million tonnes of fuel annually, 93% of which comes from Russia. The agreed supply volumes for the current year have not yet been fully met, but deliveries are continuing as usual and without interruption. At the same time, the parties are agreeing on new volumes for 2026. The temporary ban on petrol exports imposed by the Russian Federation on 27 August does not apply to Kyrgyzstan.

At the same time, the country is experiencing an increase in petrol prices, which, as oil traders explain, is due to the rise in oil prices on the world market and repair work at Russian oil refineries. Thus, as of 29 August, according to information from the National Statistics Committee, the average cost of a litre of AI-95 petrol in the country was 76.22 KGS. This is 1.14% higher than on the same date last year (75.36 KGS). At the same time, in a number of regions of the country, the cost of this type of fuel exceeded 77 KGS per litre. In particular, in the cities of Razzakov, Batken, Kara-Suu, Nookat and Osh.

AI-95 is cheapest in Uzgen, at 71.65 KGS per litre. For comparison, Bishkek residents last saw this price on 24-25 February this year. Thus, in Bishkek, AI-95 petrol has risen in price by 4.32% since the beginning of the year, from 72.76 KGS. The increase is higher across the country, at almost 5% (+4.86%).

As for AI-92 petrol, its average price across the country at the end of August was 69.86 KGS per litre, which is 7.9% higher than at the beginning of January this year.

As a reminder, starting this year, the transport tax has been abolished in Kyrgyzstan. Instead, 1 KGS is added to the cost of each litre of petrol – a levy that goes to the Road Fund.
