Bishkek drivers will spend over 43.7 million KGS in traffic jams today.

Bishkek has recorded unprecedented 10-point traffic jams, according to the 2GIS service. This is the maximum congestion level, where traffic nearly comes to a halt and vehicles spend hours waiting.

The situation is worsened by weather conditions: it is snowing outside and the temperature is -1°C, further complicating traffic flow.

Calculations conducted by the "Akchabar" editorial team reveal that such traffic jams cost city drivers significant amounts of money. According to the Mayor's Office, around 500,000 vehicles are on the roads of the capital daily. Of these, more than 400,000 are registered in Bishkek, while the total reaches 500,000 when including cars coming from suburban areas.

Assuming that around 500,000 vehicles are stuck in traffic for an hour and that the average fuel consumption while idling increases by 20% in winter due to heaters and other factors, the total fuel consumption reaches 1,620 liters. With the current price of AI-95 gasoline at 72.9 KGS per liter, drivers spend approximately 43 million 740 thousand KGS on a single traffic jam.

Additionally, the cost of taxi rides has increased by 50% (over 400 KGS for 2 kilometers of distance — Author's note), which significantly impacts passengers who are forced to travel to work or for errands in the midst of a transport collapse.

This is not only an economic issue but also an environmental blow. Idling in traffic jams increases carbon dioxide emissions and deteriorates air quality in the city.
