The average age of Kyrgyzstan’s population has risen to 28.9 years

The average age of Kyrgyzstan’s population stood at 28.9 years at the start of 2026. Among men, this figure is lower — 28.2 years — whilst among women it is 30.1 years.

The gap between the number of women and men widens with age. The difference is most pronounced among people over 80: there are almost twice as many women as men in this age group. Statisticians attribute this to higher mortality rates among men.

At the same time, the proportion of children and adolescents is gradually declining. The proportion of the population below working age fell from 34.7 per cent in 2021 to 33.1 per cent in 2025.

The highest proportion of children and adolescents remains in regions with high birth rates. In the Batken, Osh, Jalal-Abad and Talas regions, it stands at 36–39 per cent.
