04/13/2026, 12:54President Sadyr Zhaparov has issued a series of instructions to the Ministry of Energy regarding the implementation of projects aimed at developing the energy sector, increasing power generation and promoting alternative energy sources.
The Ministry of Energy is implementing reforms and major projects aimed at developing the sector, ensuring an uninterrupted electricity supply to the population and reducing the energy deficit caused by the growth in the number of consumers.
According to available information, 13 small hydroelectric power stations with a total capacity of 81.03 MW are scheduled to be commissioned in 2026. The expected electricity generation will amount to approximately 348.3 million kWh per year.
In the Chui Region, the ‘Ken-Tor’, ‘Sokuluk’, ‘Tuyuk’ and ‘Kichi-Kemin’ plants will be commissioned. In the Issyk-Kul Region: ‘Orto-Tokoy’ and ‘Tyup’. In the Jalal-Abad Region, plans are in place to commission ‘Sary-Tash’ and ‘Kainama’. In the Talas Region — ‘Urmara’.
Two small hydropower plants will also be commissioned in the Osh Region — ‘Konduk’ and
‘Alai Hydro’. In the Batken region — ‘Leylek’, and in the Naryn region — ‘Kurtka’.
Between 2021 and 2025, 27 small hydroelectric power stations with a total capacity of 109.8 MW were commissioned. Their combined output amounts to approximately 427 million kWh per year.
In addition, between 2026 and 2030, there are plans to commission 48 small hydropower stations with a total capacity of 421.26 MW.
