Cotton yield doubles in Aravan district

In the Aravan district, the yield of cotton grown using drip irrigation has increased significantly compared to last year.

Over the past three years, Chinese cotton varieties have been planted here, and drip irrigation systems have been introduced to save water. As a result, cotton yields have doubled from 35-40 centners per hectare to 60-65 centners per hectare.

Eight varieties of cotton were imported from a Chinese company for the 2025 harvest. After laboratory tests, three varieties were approved for sowing.

These varieties were sown in the Aravan and Kara-Suu districts on a total area of 200 hectares and are undergoing production trials. Harvesting is currently in full swing. This year, cotton is being harvested using modern cotton harvesters. Whereas previously, farmers harvested one hectare of cotton in three days by hand, now, thanks to technology, this can be done in just one hour. One harvester can harvest up to 17 tonnes of cotton per hour.
