The State Committee for National Security (GKNB) explained why the latest iPhones were seized at TSUM

The State Committee for National Security reported the smuggling of high-end mobile devices from well-known brands into Kyrgyzstan.

According to the State Committee, mobile phones were registered under the names of individuals crossing the border, both from Kyrgyzstan and other countries to evade customs duties. Border officials provided passport data to facilitate the registration of these devices, enabling the concealment of illegal activities.

On December 3, 2024, as part of a criminal case initiated under Article 336, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic "Corruption", searches were conducted in shopping centers in Bishkek and Osh. Unregistered mobile devices were seized, and the preliminary damage to the state budget was estimated at over 100 million KGS.
