In the village of Bokonbaevo in the Tonsky District of the Issyk-Kul Region, construction is nearing completion on a new reservoir with a capacity of 4.3 million cubic metres of water.

The project has been underway since 2023, financed by a $3 million loan from the Islamic Development Bank. To date, the facility is estimated to be 95% complete, with work expected to be finished by December of this year.

The construction is being carried out by the company KyrgyzEnergoStroyMontazh. About 50 workers are employed at the site

Once operational, the reservoir will provide irrigation water for over 5,000 hectares of land and will also allow for the additional irrigation of 817 hectares. The dam will be 15 metres high and 592 metres long.
