08/27/2025, 13:04A meeting of the interdepartmental working group on the launch and modernization of the Kasiet worsted spinning factory was held in Bishkek, where the project concept was presented.
Participants noted that wool processing is a key link in the country's sheep breeding and agro-industrial complex. The factory, which has been idle since 2015, is of strategic importance for the restoration of the wool processing industry.
For comparison: in the 1990s, Kyrgyzstan produced about 40,000 tons of fine wool, while in 2024 this figure was only 13,000 tons, of which only 8% was fine wool. At the same time, about 77% of wool remains unprocessed.
The project envisages the modernization of the factory, which will allow it to process up to 3.5 million tons of wool per year and produce up to 2,500 tons of yarn. The cost of modernization is estimated at $7.8 million, which is 12 times cheaper than building a new enterprise.
Special attention is paid to international cooperation. The National Investment Fund and the National Wool Association are participating in the project. The partnership with the Czech Republic will ensure that Kyrgyz wool receives international quality certificates for entry into the world market. The National Wool Association has also signed a memorandum with Mongolia on staff training and raw material supplies.
“The members of the working group unanimously approved the project concept, noting its importance for the restoration of the wool processing industry and the development of the country's export potential,” said the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
