08/27/2026, 11:50Between January and July, the Kyrgyz national budget received 1 billion 61.7 million KGS in VAT on electronic services provided by foreign organisations – also known as the ‘Google tax’. These figures have been released by the Ministry of Finance.
During the same period in 2025, revenue amounted to 774.9 million KGS. Thus, it has increased by 37 per cent over the year.
The so-called ‘Google tax’ has been in force in Kyrgyzstan since 2022. Foreign companies that provide users in Kyrgyzstan with software, online games, digital content, internet advertising, web hosting, cloud storage and other electronic services must register for tax purposes and pay VAT at a rate of 12 per cent.
Currently, 73 foreign companies have completed this registration. However, some major foreign services continue to operate in Kyrgyzstan without being registered for tax purposes.
As previously reported by ‘Akchabar’, the State Tax Service has identified 11 such companies. These include Alibaba Group Holding, Pinduoduo, Twitch, Microsoft, Valve, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Epic Games, Electronic Arts, VK, Telegram and Dropbox.
In 2024–2025, users from Kyrgyzstan made around 15.9 million money transfers to these companies, totalling over 13.2 billion KGS. The largest amount was transferred to Pinduoduo — 8.89 billion KGS.
The State Tax Service has repeatedly demanded that the companies register for tax purposes, including by sending requests via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If the organisations continue to operate without registering and paying taxes, access to them may be restricted.
