The ‘Digital Border’ app has been launched in Kyrgyzstan

The ‘Digital Border’ mobile app has gone live in Kyrgyzstan, enabling citizens and foreign nationals to obtain information on crossing the state border and to check whether there is a temporary ban on leaving the country.

The app was launched on 15 July by the State Border Service, the state agency ‘Ukuk’ and UN agencies.

Users will be able to find out the latest rules for crossing the border and the operating hours of border crossing points, make use of digital services, and check in advance whether there are any restrictions on leaving Kyrgyzstan.

Coinciding with the launch of the app, the country also introduced Milestone Systems’ intelligent video surveillance system, which is already operational at eight pilot border crossing points. According to the Border Service, the technology will enhance the effectiveness of border controls and security along the state border.

The project has been implemented as part of the UN Peacebuilding Fund’s programme to strengthen cooperation between the border regions of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
