Seven power plants worth 21.6 billion KGS to be built in Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan, the State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic will finance the construction of six hydroelectric power plants and one solar power plant. The projects are being implemented as part of the National Development Programme until 2030, coordinated by the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The total cost of the projects is 21.6 billion KGS. The total installed capacity of the future facilities will be 148.3 MW, and the planned annual output will reach 629.7 million kWh of electricity.

It is estimated that the implementation of the projects will cover about 16% of the current electricity deficit in the country and increase the sustainability of the national energy system. The initiative is being implemented as part of an agreed state investment policy: the Ministry of Finance is responsible for macro-financial coordination and the formation of a resource base, while the State Development Bank is acting as the operator of long-term project financing.

The projects should have a multiplier economic effect: job creation during the construction and operation phases, increased tax revenues for local and national budgets, and the development of related infrastructure, such as roads, power lines, and engineering networks. Opportunities for irrigation and support for the agricultural sector are also expected to expand.

The financed projects belong to the renewable energy segment and will contribute to reducing the carbon footprint and developing a green economy.
