11/05/2025, 12:48The State Committee for National Security reported the detention of three officials in the Talas region in connection with a case involving the conclusion of a deliberately disadvantageous contract for the expenditure of budget funds.
According to the State Committee, 17.5 million KGS were allocated to the Talas Region Physical Culture and Sports Department for the 2026 ‘I Am a Champion’ sports games. However, a significant portion of these funds — 12 million KGS — was used not for preparing for the competition, but for purchasing a residential building, which was subsequently registered as an administrative building of the regional administration.
As established by the investigation, the property was artificially overvalued with the participation of the vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, who facilitated the transaction. According to an independent expert assessment, the real market value of the building was about 7 million KGS, which indicates a loss to the state of more than 4 million KGS.
The vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, the head of the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports, and the former deputy governor of the Talas region have been detained and placed in a temporary detention centre in connection with the case.
The State Committee is investigating the role of other officials who may have been involved in the illegal expenditure of budget funds.
