Jogorku Kenesh to discuss introduction of ‘smart’ traffic lights across the country

Today, 14 March, the Kyrgyz Parliament discussed the Safe City project as part of the Smart City programme. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktyabr Urmambetov said that the project has been successfully implemented in Bishkek, Osh and Chui oblast. Thanks to the new technologies, the number of road accidents in Bishkek decreased by 3.1 per cent and in Chui Oblast by 14.2 per cent.

Several key issues were raised during the discussion. The work of hardware complexes was considered, as well as the need for enhanced control over the implementation of the second phase of the project. They also discussed the introduction of ‘smart’ traffic lights throughout the country and the installation of video surveillance cameras in schools and kindergartens.

Currently, 80 per cent of schools in Bishkek already have video surveillance, and alarm buttons for emergency situations have been installed in educational institutions.
