Only 18-20% of future drivers pass the exam, — Sadyr Zhaparov

President Sadyr Zhaparov visited the State Centre for Vehicle and Driver Registration under the Presidential Administration. The head of state personally familiarised himself with the organisation of the examination process and the conditions for testing the theoretical knowledge of future drivers.

During the visit, an automated examination system based on digital technologies and artificial intelligence elements was demonstrated. Exams are conducted without the participation of examiners: the system records the movement of the student's head, and any looking away from the screen or the appearance of unauthorised persons in the frame is automatically considered a violation and leads to the cancellation of the result.

During a meeting with students and directors of private driving schools, the president explained in detail the measures aimed at reducing road accidents. According to Zhaparov, for many years the driver training system was prone to corruption — previously, more than 90% of private driving school graduates successfully passed their exams, despite their low level of actual knowledge.

After tightening controls and personnel changes, the situation has changed: today, only 18-20% of candidates successfully pass their exams.

Sadyr Zhaparov recalled that over the past ten years, there have been about 75,000 traffic accidents in Kyrgyzstan, in which 9,120 people have died, and called the reform of the examination system a matter of public safety.

The head of state also reported on the discovery of illegal privatisation of about 70 driving school training facilities, some of which were used for personal gain.
