98 lighting columns were made to look like black metal: a customs inspector has been arrested

The State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of Kyrgyzstan has detained an inspector from the inspection team of the North-Eastern Customs Office on suspicion of abuse of office and making false declarations regarding goods. This was reported by the agency.

According to the State Committee for National Security, a consignment of 98 lighting columns was cleared through the North-East Customs Office under the guise of ‘ferrous metal’.

Furthermore, an incorrect HS code was applied during the customs clearance of the consignment. As a result, the agency claims, mandatory customs duties were not paid into the budget, and the state suffered damage on a particularly large scale.

The suspect, born in 1995, has been remanded in custody at the State Committee for National Security’s detention centre in accordance with Article 96 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
