The programme is being implemented with the support of the ADB and focuses on the modernisation of public buildings in the regions of Kyrgyzstan. Funding will be provided through a mechanism linked to the achievement of specific results.
The main focus is on buildings outside Bishkek, where infrastructure is more dilapidated and financial resources are limited. The refurbishment will reduce energy consumption, lessen the environmental impact and improve conditions for users – schoolchildren, students and patients.
The Kyrgyz authorities are stepping up their efforts on energy efficiency against a backdrop of rising energy costs and the need to modernise outdated infrastructure in the regions.
The Asian Development Bank has traditionally funded infrastructure and social projects in Kyrgyzstan. In recent years, the bank has placed an emphasis on the ‘green’ agenda and sustainable development.
