06/18/2025, 16:06In January–April 2025, Kyrgyzstan exported 3,700 tons of sugar worth more than 210.3 million KGS ($2.4 million). This is evidenced by data from the National Statistics Committee.
Almost the entire volume — 3,564.5 tons — was delivered to Uzbekistan, which amounted to over 204.5 million KGS in monetary terms. An insignificant volume — 108 tons — went to Tajikistan. No deliveries were recorded this year to Afghanistan, which was previously one of the buyers.
Export figures declined compared to the same period in 2024. At that time, total sugar exports amounted to 5,800 tons worth over 352 million KGS, of which more than 303 million also went to Uzbekistan.
Despite exports, Kyrgyzstan remains a net importer of sugar: 4.3 thousand tons worth almost 491.5 million KGS ($5.6 million) were imported into the country. The main supplier is Russia, which provided more than 4.1 thousand tons. Small volumes were also supplied from Kazakhstan, Turkey, Iran, and Poland.
Compared to January–April last year, sugar imports decreased significantly: in 2024, during the same period, they amounted to almost 26 thousand tons worth 1.4 billion KGS. It should be noted that in 2024, Kyrgyzstan provided 92% of its sugar needs.
