The Personal Data Protection Agency has been granted powers to handle state secrets

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan has amended Resolution No. 206 of 26 April 2024, which sets out the list of state bodies and organisations authorised to classify information as state secrets.

Under Resolution No. 547 of 14 August 2026, the State Agency for Personal Data Protection under the Cabinet of Ministers has been included in this list. Furthermore, the agency has been granted powers in relation to certain information constituting state secrets.

In particular, information on data protection measures intended for the processing of information classified as a state secret—including cryptographic information protection measures—has been added to the list of information constituting a state secret. In the relevant sections of the document, the Agency has also been added to the list of bodies involved in handling such information.

The resolution establishes a new abbreviation, ZhMKMA – the State Agency for the Protection of Personal Data under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The resolution will come into force seven days after its official publication.
