Over 2.8 million tourists in six months: National Council sets priorities for tourism development

A meeting of the National Council for Tourism Development under the Cabinet of Ministers was held at the Yntymak Ordo complex, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov.

The agenda included key areas of state policy in the field of tourism, namely the modernisation of infrastructure, the promotion of Kyrgyzstan's tourism potential abroad, the development of business and ecological tourism, as well as proposals for the introduction of hotel and tourist taxes.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, more than 2.8 million foreign tourists visited Kyrgyzstan in the first half of 2025, 88.45% of whom were citizens of Central Asian countries. Budget revenues from the industry amounted to 160.6 million soms, indicating steady growth in the sector.

Edil Baysalov emphasised that tourism plays a strategic role in ensuring economic growth, employment and regional development. According to him, it is necessary to intensify the partnership between the state and the private sector, while developing an environmentally responsible and sustainable model of tourism.

Following the meeting, a number of recommendations were formulated, including instructing state and local authorities to develop a mechanism for introducing a hotel tax, as well as measures to simplify the conditions for doing business in the tourism sector and improve the investment climate in the industry.
