04/24/2026, 15:33Orunbekov has denied rumours that the Moldovan politician and billionaire Ilan Shor, who is subject to sanctions in the country, is in Kyrgyzstan.
The statement was made by Dairbek Orunbekov, head of the Information Policy Service of the Kyrgyz Presidential Administration. According to him, reports circulating in the media and on social media claiming that Shor is allegedly living in Kyrgyzstan and conducting business or political activities there are untrue.
The authorities emphasised that Shor is not in the country and is not active here. The media and users were urged not to spread false information.
Ilan Shor is a Moldovan politician and former mayor of Orhei. He was implicated in a case involving the embezzlement of approximately $1 billion from Moldovan banks in 2014. In 2017, he was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison, and in 2023 his sentence was increased to 15 years. In 2019, Shor left Moldova and, according to open sources, has been outside the country ever since.
