A temporary route across the Kyrgyz-Chinese border may be opened for the construction of the Barskoon–Aksu road

Erlist Akunbekov held talks with Erkin Tunyaz, Chairman of the People’s Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The parties discussed the construction of a temporary road to transport machinery and equipment for the Barskoon–Uchturfan–Aksu highway project.

The talks took place via video conference with the participation of representatives from government agencies of Kyrgyzstan and China.

One of the key issues was the organization of a temporary route across the Kyrgyz-Chinese border to allow the passage of specialized machinery, construction equipment, and other cargo necessary for the implementation of the Barskoon–Uchturfan–Aksu highway project. As noted during the meeting, construction work on the site is already actively underway.

In essence, this involves creating a separate logistics corridor for a major infrastructure project, which is intended to facilitate the delivery of construction machinery and materials to Kyrgyzstan.

In addition, the parties discussed increasing the throughput capacity of the Torugart and Irkeshtam checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border.

Special attention was given to trade in agricultural products. According to the Kyrgyz side, approximately 17 protocols regulating the export of domestic agricultural products to the Chinese market have already been signed between Kyrgyzstan and China.

The Chinese side also proposed establishing a cargo terminal at Osh Airport to develop mutual trade and logistics.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to continue joint efforts to develop transport and logistics links and strengthen trade and economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China.
